One of the major reasons our organization has experienced success is because we decided that our government leaders needed to hear our voice. That conviction led us to request and hold meetings with DOC officials, lawmakers, the Governor's staff, and community stakeholders - those both for and against criminal-legal reform. In doing so, we quickly discovered that our stories have power, and that our leaders and decision-makers, even if not necessarily sharing our values and goals, were receptive to engaging in continued conversations. The commitment to continuing to use our stories as catalysts for change continues to remain the underlying foundation of all of our work. And to continue in this work, we need your stories. Our leaders and decision-makers need to hear about the impact the criminal-legal system has had on you, your family, your friends, your community, and of course, your loved ones.

This work will continue to be an uphill battle, and we need those who hold the power to understand the very real-world impacts current policies, practices, and laws have on our communities.
