LAB Reporting Mechanisms

The Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) is a division of the state legislature responsible for supporting the legislature's oversight responsibility by providing "...nonpartisan, independent, accurate, and timely audits and evaluations of public finances and the management of public programs." One such way the LAB works to accomplish its mission is through the administration of a "Fraud, Waste, and Mismanagement" program.

This program "investigates allegations of fraud and other improper acts by state agencies, employees, and contractors."  The scope of investigations undertaken by the Fraud, Waste, and Mismanagement program are varied and vast.

The Ladies of SCI have identified the following priority areas of concern pertaining to the administration, management, and operations of the Department of Corrections, and that fall under the investigative authority of the LAB:

  • Exaggerated Staffing Matrices

  • Nepotistic Promotional/Advancement Structures

  • Employee Misuse/Theft of State Resources

  • Contractual Agreements for Services

  • Wastefulness in Operational Management Resources/Supplies

The Ladies of SCI have called for the Joint Legislative Audit Committee to conduct a full-scale audit of all DOC practices. We urge you to utilize the following link if you know or suspect the DOC or any of its employees/contractors are engaging in fraud, mismanagement, and/or wastefulness. You are also invited to share your concerns with us by completing our online contact form.
